Game 11 at Station Park was one of the most meaningful days we have had as a group. This match held huge significance for our teammate Joe Dickens. The reason Joe is still with us today is down to the actions of Josh Foster and the team at Tayside Mountain Rescue. This was the first time Joe, Josh, and the rescuers were together on a pitch since the accident, creating a powerful and emotional moment for everyone involved.

Joe’s family filled the stand and his daughters, joined by friends, sang his name from start to finish. The support off the pitch matched the spirit shown on it.

First Half

The Blues made a strong start and controlled the opening twenty minutes. Their pressure told when Mark McLeod found Calum Sneddon, who curled a lovely finish into the far corner for 1–0.

The game then opened up and the Yellows found their moment. Darge lifted a pass forward to McPherson, who brought it down well and chipped the keeper to level the score.

Just before half time the Blues had a golden chance from the penalty spot. Alex Cameron stepped up, but Marc Skinner stayed composed and produced a brilliant save to keep it at 1–1.

Second Half

The second half stayed tight, with Skinner outstanding in goal for the Yellows. He pulled off several important stops to keep them in the game.

With twenty minutes left, the Yellows took the lead. Moran delivered a corner and Boggie lashed it into the bottom corner for 2–1. The Blues hit back quickly. Otway’s corner bounced through the box and fell to Richie Rintoul, who fired high into the net for 2–2.

As the match looked to be heading for penalties, the Yellows found one last opening. Tierney slipped a pass into the path of Moran, whose deflected shot found its way into the corner for 3–2.

A fitting end to a special day and a proud moment for Joe and Josh to be on the winning side together.

Why This Game Mattered

Joe’s story is a reminder of why Tayside Mountain Rescue are so important. In 2022 Joe suffered a serious fall while climbing in Glen Clova. He was left suspended unconscious in his rope. What followed was a major emergency response involving Tayside Mountain Rescue Team, SORT and the UK Coastguard. Their efforts saved his life and gave him the chance to return to his family, his career, and eventually back to football.

Being able to play this match in support of the people who saved Joe meant everything to the squad. Every donation, every share, and every person who came along helped shine a light on the teams who step in when things go badly wrong.
