Charity Match for Brick: In aid of Cancer Research UK

Our first ever charity game set the tone for everything we wanted Samba to be. We had stepped away from the Edinburgh amateur leagues to focus on matches that meant something. This one meant a lot.

The weather was brutal. Heavy rain, strong winds, the full works. But nothing was stopping us taking to the pitch for Brick. He was part of the Samba family many years ago and sadly passed away early last year. This match was played in his memory, and the lads turned up in force.

The pitch held up well, and the football was even better. David Donald’s team ran out 6-2 winners, with some cracking goals flying in. Ryan Somerville’s first was the standout, a lovely finish in grim conditions. It was brilliant to see so many familiar faces back together again.

Highlight of the Game

Chris Somerville rolled back the years with a surprise cameo. He has always sworn he’d never play again thanks to those dodgy hamstrings, but he stuck the boots on for Brick and smashed in two goals. He walked off in one piece as well, which might be the biggest miracle of the day. He says that’s him done, but we’ll see about that 🤙

Amount Raised: £500
